Obverse description Central field features four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform reading top to bottom and right to left, with a decorative floral rosette at the centre. Manchu script characters flank the central ideograms on either side. A surrounding outer legend of additional Chinese ideograms encircles the design, conveying the mint province, reign title Guangxu, and denomination. The overall composition is typical of late Qing provincial copper cash issues, with carefully delineated characters in raised relief against a flat field.
