| Obverse description | Large round cast bronze coin with a central square hole. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged radially around the central perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 大 (dà), 通 (tōng), 寶 (bǎo), 中 (zhōng), forming the inscription 大中通寶 (Dazhong Tongbao, meaning 'Great Zhong Circulating Treasure'). The characters are boldly rendered in raised relief with well-defined strokes. The flat field is plain, bounded by a raised inner rim encircling the square hole and a raised outer rim defining the coin's circumference. The overall style is consistent with standard Chinese cast coinage of the late Yuan–early Ming transitional period. |
