| Obverse description | Four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in cruciform fashion around a central square perforation, reading top-to-bottom then right-to-left: 大 (dà), 中 (zhōng), 通 (tōng), 寶 (bǎo). The boldly cast characters are set within a broad, plain inner rim surrounding the square hole, with a raised outer rim encircling the coin's periphery. The flan exhibits a dark olive-brown patina consistent with aged bronze. No additional decorative elements or mint marks appear on the obverse. |
