Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four 'Phags-pa script characters arranged in two vertical columns, read top to bottom and left to right, occupying the four quadrants of the obverse field. The inscription reads 'Ta Uen Tung Baw' (Da Yuan Tong Bao), meaning 'Great Yuan Universal Currency.' The characters are deeply incuse within raised rectangular cartouches that abut the central square perforation, giving the design a bold, architecturally structured appearance characteristic of Yuan dynasty cast coinage. The broad raised rim frames the composition cleanly, with no additional decorative elements in the field.
