Obverse description Right-facing bust of President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, depicted wearing a traditional kufi cap and glasses, with a draped garment at the truncation, engraved in high relief with fine detail to facial features and clothing. The circular legend 'REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA' runs along the upper periphery, with the date '1971' positioned at the lower right, separated by a small dot. The portrait was designed and engraved by Michael Rizzello.

Reverse description A double-spurred francolin (Pternistis bicalcaratus) rendered in fine naturalistic detail, standing in profile facing left upon a short ground line at center. The numeral '10' appears prominently in the upper left field, with the legend 'BUTUTS' running vertically along the right periphery. The Arabic denomination 'بتوت' is inscribed in a curved arrangement to the left of the bird. The overall composition is well-balanced, with the bird as the dominant central motif.
