Bolivia redenominated its currency in 1987 at a rate of one million to one, replacing the devastated peso boliviano after an inflation episode that had reached an annualized rate of over 20,000 percent in 1985 — one of the most severe hyperinflations recorded in Latin American history. This note belongs to the first series issued under the restored boliviano, making it a direct product of that stabilization.
Three printers across two continents produced runs of this series — De La Rue in London, Oberthur in France, and the Spanish Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre. Differentiating printer origin typically requires examining signature combinations and plate letter prefixes rather than surface examination.
