Obverse description Central device features the quartered shield of the Canton of Aargau, displaying a crosshatched upper-left quarter, three wavy lines representing the river Aare in the upper-right and lower-left quarters, and three six-pointed stars arranged vertically in the lower-right quarter. The shield is flanked by two crossed olive branches tied at the base, forming a wreath-like surround. A small ornamental rosette appears above the shield at the top of the field. The encircling legend reads CANTON ARGAU, divided by the rosette ornament, executed in bold Roman capitals close to the beaded border.
