The Bukarester Tagblatt was a German-language daily newspaper published in Bucharest during the German occupation of Wallachia, which ran from late 1916 until late 1918. When the Romanian currency system collapsed under occupation conditions and small change became effectively unobtainable, several private issuers — businesses, municipalities, newspapers — stepped in with emergency cardboard or paper Notgeld tokens denominated in bani. This is one of those pieces.
That a newspaper became a monetary issuer tells you everything about how thoroughly the normal economic machinery had broken down. The Tagblatt's notes circulated locally in and around Bucharest for the duration of the occupation, and most were redeemed or discarded when Romanian administration resumed in November 1918.
