The 24th Summer Universiade was held in Bangkok in 2007 — the first time the games were hosted in Southeast Asia. Thailand's bid had beaten out several competing cities, and the Royal Thai Mint issued this commemorative to mark the occasion, part of a broader pattern of Universiade host nations producing circulating bimetallic commemoratives during this period.
