Obverse description Bimetallic coin featuring a right-facing draped bust of Queen Sirikit occupying the aluminium bronze centre, her hair elegantly upswept and adorned with a tiara, wearing a pearl necklace and formal regalia with a decorative sash clasp visible at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in fine relief with naturalistic detail. The Thai legend curving along the lower portion of the copper-nickel outer ring reads the full royal title of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, Queen Regent.

Additional information

This piece was struck to mark the 75th birthday of Queen Sirikit, born 12 August 1932, whose public prominence in Thailand had grown considerably since King Bhumibol's increasing withdrawal from ceremonial duties in the early 2000s. Commemorative bimetallic issues from the Royal Thai Mint during this period were produced in substantial quantities for general circulation, meaning survivors in uncirculated condition depend almost entirely on deliberate hoarding at time of release rather than low mintage.
