Struck to commemorate the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, the Philippine-based organization that presents what is often called Asia's Nobel Prize. Thailand's participation in this commemorative was not incidental — several Thai recipients had won the award in the decades prior, and the issue marked the foundation's 1991 anniversary cycle. These commemorative 10 Baht pieces were produced in limited numbers for ceremonial distribution rather than general circulation, which accounts for the frequency of uncirculated survivors relative to the tiny mintage.
