Issued to commemorate the centennial of Thailand's Department of Lands, established in 1901 under Rama V as part of a sweeping modernization of the kingdom's land tenure and cadastral systems. The department was created largely in response to colonial pressure — neighboring territories were being absorbed by British and French administrations partly on the grounds that indigenous land rights were poorly defined. Formalizing ownership records was as much a diplomatic defense as an administrative reform.
