Reverse description The central device depicts the Portuguese quinas cross — a bold Greek cross whose five panels are each filled with arrays of small raised circles (quinas), derived from the traditional Portuguese royal arms. The encircling legend 'REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA' runs along the upper periphery in spaced capital letters separated by small decorative stops. The date appears in the lower exergual area, flanked by floral rosette stops. The composition closely follows the standard Portuguese colonial coinage type of the mid-twentieth century.
