| Additional information |
Macau's brass coinage of the 1980s was produced under Portuguese administration in the final stretch before the 1987 Sino-Portuguese Joint Declaration, which formally scheduled the handover to China for 1999. The avos denominations saw relatively heavy use in the territory's casino-driven cash economy, where small-denomination coins cycled through at unusual velocity compared to neighboring Hong Kong.
The KM#20 series ran through 1988, just as transitional monetary planning began in earnest.
