| Obverse description | The obverse features the arms of Macau superimposed upon an armillary sphere, the latter a traditional symbol of Portuguese overseas territories. The shield displays the five escutcheons of Portugal arranged in a cross, each bearing five bezants, quartered with the dragon of Macau, and surmounted by a mural crown. The Latin legend MACAU arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by two small five-pointed stars, while the corresponding Chinese characters 門 (left) and 澳 (right) appear in the field on either side of the central device. The date appears in the lower field below the shield. |
