| Obverse description | Irregular copper flan bearing a multi-line Arabic tughra-style legend filling the central field, invoking the name and titles of the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II. The legend reads 'Al-Sultan Mahmud Khan, may his victory be glorified,' rendered in flowing calligraphic script. The field is flat and uneven, typical of hammered coinage, with a roughly executed dotted border encircling the inscription. The surface displays characteristic porosity and irregular striking, consistent with the artisanal mint practices of early nineteenth-century Algiers. |
