Additional information

The kilogram Panda gold coin occupies an odd corner of the Chinese bullion program — technically legal tender at 10,000 yuan face value, a figure rendered absurd by a metal content worth roughly 280 times that at spot. China's Panda series has been issued annually since 1982, and the kilogram denomination has appeared sporadically within it, making survival in collector rather than institutional hands nearly universal. The 2018 issue was struck at the Shanghai Mint, which consolidated production of the larger Panda formats after the series split between Shanghai and Shenyang was effectively resolved in the mid-2010s.
