Additional information

The kilogram Panda is the largest standard issue in the Chinese Gold Panda program, which the People's Bank of China launched in 1982 partly as a foreign exchange vehicle during the early reform period under Deng Xiaoping. The 10,000 Yuan face value is nominal — these pieces trade exclusively on gold content and collector demand, never on face.

2016 was the last year before the program abandoned its longtime practice of changing the panda design annually, a shift that drew considerable protest from the collector community. This piece carries one of the final annually unique designs under the old policy.
