| Obverse description | Portrait of R. A. Kartini at left, facing right, is the central motif, set against a vignette of the Prambanan Temple rendered in the background. The watermark window occupies the left margin, while the Indonesian State Emblem (Garuda Pancasila) is positioned in the upper right corner. Fine guilloche underprint work covers the field throughout, with the denomination and issuer inscriptions arranged across the design. |

Perum Peruri — the Indonesian state security printing works — had been refining its intaglio capability through the late 1970s and into the 1980s, and this note reflects that period of consolidation. The print run of just over 12 million is modest by Indonesian standards, particularly for a high-denomination note during a decade when oil revenue contraction forced tighter fiscal management under the New Order government.
Sudirno's credit as designer is unusual enough to be worth noting — named individual designers appear rarely in Indonesian issue documentation of this period.
