Additional information

Qatar's National Day on December 18 commemorates the day in 1878 when Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani assumed leadership of the peninsula — not independence from Britain, which came in 1971. The date was formally reinstated as a national holiday by Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in 2007, the same year this coin was struck, replacing the previously observed September 3 Independence Day.

At just over 70 grams of 22-karat gold, this is a substantial bullion-adjacent commemorative. The KM#74 attribution places it within a concentrated run of high-denomination Qatari gold issues from Hamad's reign.
