Obverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of Emperor Pedro II facing left, wearing an elaborately pleated and lace-trimmed court collar characteristic of the Brazilian Imperial period. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine engraving detail on the collar and hair. The encircling legend reads PETRUS II.D.G.C.IMP. ET PERP.BRAS.DEF., distributed along the left and right periphery within a beaded border. The date appears in the lower exergue directly below the portrait.
