Obverse description Conjoined effigies of King Juan Carlos I (foreground, left) and Crown Prince Felipe (background, right), both in civilian dress, facing left, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The crowned legend JUAN CARLOS I · REY DE ESPAÑA arcs along the border, separated by a beaded inner circle, with the date 1998 positioned above the busts. The crowned Madrid mint mark (M) appears to the upper right of the field, accompanied by the Spanish royal coat of arms. At the lower border, a small circular engraver's mark and ornamental floral cartouches flank the beaded ring.
