| Obverse description | The obverse presents four circular portrait medallions arranged in a quatrefoil composition within an ornate interlaced border. The upper medallion contains facing busts of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia in profile confrontation, flanked by the date 19-90 in the field. The lower left and lower right medallions each display a bust of one of the royal daughters, while the bottom central medallion bears the portrait bust of the Prince of Asturias. The royal crown appears at the top of the design above the portrait grouping, and the circular legend reading :JVAN:CARLOS:I:REY:DE:ESPANA: runs along the outer border, separated by decorative dot stops, all set against a deeply mirrored proof field. |
