Obverse description A detailed high-relief rendering of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela dominates the central field, depicting its ornate Baroque facade with twin towers and elaborately decorated stonework. Situated above the cathedral, at twelve o'clock, is an oval medallion bearing the unadorned portrait bust of King Juan Carlos I facing left, surmounted by a royal crown. A beaded inner border frames the central design, separating it from the broad outer legend. The circular legend reads JUAN CARLOS I REY DE ESPAÑA, disposed left and right of the portrait medallion. The date 1993 appears in the lower exergue, flanked by decorative asterisks, with the Madrid mint mark (M) positioned between the digits of the year.
