| Obverse description | Central vignette comprises a bust portrait of Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807–1845), natural scientist and poet, set against a background in which the topographical outlines of mountains Háafjall and Hraundrangi are formed from Icelandic words coined by Hallgrímsson. A decorative floral guilloche pattern derived from the cover of the periodical Fjölnir is incorporated into the underprint, accompanied by a facsimile of Hallgrímsson's handwritten poem Ferðalok (Journey's End) and a topographical outline of mount Skjaldbreiður. |
