The "Money Tree" issues from BEAC have become a recurring novelty format in the modern commemorative market, produced for collector export rather than any domestic monetary function. The Central African CFA franc zone — covering Cameroon, Chad, Gabon, the Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of the Congo — has no meaningful history of circulating this denomination. These coins are struck under license arrangements and distributed almost entirely through European and American dealers.
KM#136a designates the gold-plated variant, distinguished from a straight silver strike. The plating is applied post-minting.
