Lady Godiva's ride through Coventry, recorded by Roger of Wendover in the 13th century, is almost certainly legend — the historical Godiva was a genuine Anglo-Saxon noblewoman and major landholder, but the naked procession appears nowhere in contemporary sources. John Collier's 1897 oil painting is the version most people picture when they hear the name, and it's that painting, not the medieval account, driving this issue.
At 1104 grams, this is a bullion-format collector piece, silver-plated copper rather than solid silver — a distinction worth noting given the .999 designation applies only to the plating.
