Greece's postwar inflation was staggering — by the time this note was issued in 1947, the country had already executed a 1,000-to-1 redenomination in 1944 to address the catastrophic wartime hyperinflation that had rendered earlier drachmai essentially worthless. This 10,000-drachmai denomination, enormous by prewar standards, was itself a routine transactional amount within months of issue. Bradbury Wilkinson had a long relationship with the Bank of Greece and produced several of the postwar recovery series from their New Malden works.

The undated format was deliberate — the series was intended for extended use across an uncertain recovery period, with the issuing date managed through control numbers rather than printed text.
