Yugoslavia's hyperinflation of 1992–1994 was among the most severe recorded in the twentieth century, eventually peaking at a monthly rate surpassing two million percent. The 10,000 Dinar denomination, which would have seemed extraordinary just years earlier, was effectively worthless within weeks of issue — the National Bank was printing ever-larger values not to meet economic demand but simply to keep pace with price movements measured in hours.

ZIN produced the entire hyperinflationary series domestically, under sanctions that had cut Yugoslavia off from foreign currency printers. Andrić's engraving work on the obverse is competent given the circumstances, though the speed of production across these inflation-era issues is visible in the relatively shallow intaglio depth compared to pre-1990 Yugoslav notes.
