| Obverse description | Plain white ground with a bold black banner at the top carrying the issuer's name in capital letters. The denomination '10 000 000 / ZEHN MILLIONEN MARK' is set in large blackletter type to the left centre, while a large decorative cursive monogram underprint in pink-red occupies the central field. A bordered text panel to the right details redemption locations and the note's expiry date. The serial number and series letter 'REIHE C' appear vertically along the left margin, with the place and date of issue 'DUISBURG-MEIDERICH, DEN 14. AUGUST 23' at the foot, accompanied by two manuscript signatures on behalf of Rheinische Stahlwerke. |

Rheinische Stahlwerke A.G. was one of the major Ruhr steel conglomerates, and like dozens of industrial firms during the hyperinflation crisis of 1923, it was forced to issue its own emergency currency — Notgeld — simply to meet weekly payroll. By mid-1923, the Reichsbank could not print and distribute currency fast enough to keep pace with collapsing purchasing power, and firms with their own printing arrangements moved faster than the central bank could.
The ten-million mark denomination places this note firmly in the autumn acceleration, when values that seemed unthinkable in January were routine by October.
