| Reverse description | Reverse features a full-length frontal figure of Jesus Christ in Majesty, standing within a granulated oval mandorla formed by a series of small stars or pellets arranged in an ellipse. Christ is shown nimbed, wearing long robes, and raising his right hand in a gesture of benediction while holding the Gospels in his left hand. Eight stars or pellets are distributed within the mandorla field surrounding the figure. The circular legend, which is characteristic of the Venetian ducat series, reads SIT T PE DAT Q TV REGIS ISTE DVCAT, a devotional inscription invoking Christ's blessing upon the ducat. The overall design follows the canonical iconographic type established for the Venetian gold ducat since its introduction under Giovanni Dandolo in 1284. |
