| Reverse description | The reverse presents a frontal, full-length figure of Christ in Majesty standing within an oval mandorla formed by a beaded border, his right hand raised in blessing and his left hand holding the Gospels. Eight six-pointed stars are symmetrically distributed within the mandorla field, flanking the figure on both sides in a decorative arrangement characteristic of the Venetian ducat type from which this zecchino derives its design. The legend encircling the outer border reads SIT • TXPE • DAT • REGIS • ISTE • DV •, a devotional inscription rendering the formula 'Sit tibi Christe datus quem tu regis iste ducatus,' dedicating the ducat to Christ. The overall style is hieratic and stylized, consistent with medieval hammered gold coinage of the period. A beaded inner border frames the central design. |
