| Obverse description | The quartered coat of arms of Grand Master Marc'Antonio Zondadari, surmounted by a princely crown, occupies the central field and is flanked on either side by ornate palm fronds in high relief. The armorial shield displays the traditional quartered design of the Order of St. John impaled with the personal arms of the Grand Master. A circular legend in Latin surrounds the entire device, naming the Grand Master in full with his titles, rendered in a crisp, upright Roman typeface characteristic of early eighteenth-century Maltese coinage. |
