| Reverse description | A full-length, facing figure of Christ in Majesty, robed and nimbed, stands within a beaded mandorla (ellipse) decorated with six-pointed stars. Christ raises his right hand in blessing and holds the Gospels in his left. The surrounding field carries the characteristic Venetian ducal legend in Latin, invoking Christ as the ruler for whom this ducat is struck. The overall design is rendered in the refined, hieratic style consistent with Venetian gold coinage of the mid-16th century. |
