Reverse description The reverse features a wide ornate papal shield, its surface divided by vertical lines and framed by elaborate baroque scrollwork, centrally positioned in the field. Above the shield, the crossed keys of Saint Peter — one plain and one elaborate — are surmounted by the papal tiara, from which rays of divine light radiate outward to both sides. Flanking the shield at either side are twisted rope or cord ornaments terminating in tassels, accentuating the heraldic composition. The circular Latin legend REPENTE DE CÆLO is distributed around the periphery of the design, referencing a divine or heavenly theme appropriate to the pontificate of Benedict XIV.
