Obverse description St. John the Baptist, nimbed and robed, stands facing left holding a tall staff or banner of the Order in the center field, dividing the legend. To the right, the kneeling figure of Grand Master Antoine de Paule is depicted in profile, wearing a plumed hat and mantle, with hands clasped in supplication. The peripheral legend runs along both sides of the divided field in Latin capital letters.

Reverse description Christ standing facing, nimbed, depicted full-length within a large dotted oval border composed of pearls or dots, surrounded by an arrangement of six-pointed stars scattered throughout the field. The figure is shown in long robes with arms slightly extended. The circular Latin legend is distributed around the periphery of the coin, reading in two parts separated by the oval border.
