| Obverse description | Saint John the Baptist standing facing, holding a long cross-staff, with a nimbed head depicted as a medallion at top of staff; to the right, Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt kneeling in prayer, presented before the saint. The two figures flank the central staff in a composition closely modelled on the Venetian zecchino tradition. The encircling Latin legend reads F·ALOPIVS·DE WIGNACOVRT along the inner border, with a beaded outer rim. |
