Obverse description St. Mark standing facing left presents a gonfalon staff surmounted by a cross to the kneeling Doge Agostino Barbarigo at right, who receives it with both hands in a gesture of homage. The legend DVX appears vertically between the two figures in the field. Both figures are rendered in the flat, hieratic Byzantine-influenced style characteristic of Venetian zecchini of the period. The outer legend encircles the entire design within a beaded border.
