Additional information

Hupeh Province was one of the first Chinese provincial mints to modernize with Western machinery, and the Yuan-valued dragon dollars it produced in the final years of the Qing dynasty are among the most historically loaded of all provincial issues. The Xuantong reign spanned only three years before the Wuchang Uprising of October 1911 — which began, not coincidentally, in Hupeh itself — toppled the dynasty entirely. Coins struck under this reign designation were still leaving the Wuchang mint as revolutionary forces seized it.
