Reverse description A three-masted Chinese junk under full sail navigates to the left across stylized waves, rendered with fine detail in the rigging and hull. A single Chinese character 壹 (one) appears to the left of the vessel and 元 (yuan) to the right, flanking the central design. The overall composition is balanced and spare, in keeping with the proposed circulating dollar format. The border is formed by the same square dentil band as the obverse, consistent with the medallic production style of the Rome mint. The letter R, the mint mark of the Regia Zecca, appears in the right field.
