| Additional information |
The Hunan-Hupeh Soviet was one of several short-lived Communist base areas established in central China during the Nationalist-Communist civil conflict of the early 1930s. This dollar was struck as the Kuomintang's encirclement campaigns were already closing in — the base area was effectively destroyed by 1934, making the window for this coinage extremely narrow. Survivors in any condition are scarce, and most known examples show heavy circulation, consistent with a region under active military pressure rather than a stable issuing authority.
