| Obverse description | The obverse displays large Chinese and Manchu script characters arranged concentrically within a beaded inner circle, reading the denomination and issuing authority. The central field bears the characters for 'Guangxu Yuanbao' (光緒元寶), denoting the reign period and currency type, flanked by Manchu script equivalents. The outer legend, running between the beaded border and the inner circle, records the province of issue (新疆省造, 'Made in Sinkiang Province') and the weight specification of seven mace and two candareens. A small decorative device appears at the very center of the field.
