Obverse description Portrait of Sun Yat-sen in intaglio within an oval vignette at right, set against fine guilloche underprint in blue-grey. The central panel carries a large denominational character 壹圓 (One Yuan) within an ornate floral guilloche medallion. The place name 廣州 (Canton) appears in vertical panels at left and right margins, with red serial numbers printed in two positions across the upper field.

Reverse description A circular central vignette displays a Chinese silver junk under sail on open water, rendered in intaglio within an ornate scrollwork surround. Symmetrical guilloche panels at left and right each bear the inscription ONE SILVER DOLLAR within decorative frames. The place name CANTON appears twice in the lower field flanking the central vignette, with the date 1949 below centre and the printer's imprint at the foot.
