The Bank of Eastern Chekiang (Zhedong Yinhang) was a regional bank operating under the control of the Communist New Fourth Army in the Zhejiang liberated zones during the final years of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Notes issued in 1945 served as occupation currency in areas contested between Japanese forces, Nationalist troops, and Communist guerrilla administration — the political situation on the ground shifting faster than any issuing authority could track.
Provincial Communist-issued notes from this period were frequently withdrawn and demonetized as territorial control changed hands, which accounts for the relative scarcity of surviving circulated examples across the entire S3058 series.
