Obverse description Facing bust effigy of Zhang Zuolin in military uniform, rendered in high relief with finely detailed epaulettes and ornate breast decorations. The portrait occupies the central field, with the subject depicted as bald with a distinctive moustache and short beard. A circular legend in Chinese characters arcs around the upper field, reading the date in the Republican calendar. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border along the rim.

Reverse description Central device depicts the Twelve Symbols national emblem of China (in use 1913–1928), featuring a dragon and a phoenix flanking and supporting sacrificial vessels above an axe head, all surrounded by floral ornamentation on either side. A Chinese legend arcs across the upper field, while the Latin denomination legend is inscribed along the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border.
