Reverse description The reverse displays the denomination in two large Japanese characters, '一圓' (One Yen), prominently centered in the field within a decorative wreath. The wreath is composed of two asymmetric branches — a paulownia branch bearing blossoms and buds on the left, and an oak branch with acorns on the right — tied together at the base with a formal ribbon bow. Surmounting the wreath at the top is the Imperial chrysanthemum mon, rendered as a stylized sixteen-petaled rosette, serving as the emblem of the Japanese Imperial House. The entire design is contained within a toothed outer border.
