Obverse description Central field depicts the crowned Portuguese royal arms, featuring the escutcheon of Portugal with five bezants arranged in a cross pattern on a white shield, surrounded by a bordure of castles. The crown above the shield is rendered in a stylized manner typical of hammered colonial coinage. The overall design is characteristic of the simplified heraldic style employed at the Daman mint during the reign of João V. No encircling legend appears on the obverse.
