| Reverse description | Facing bust portrait of Yeon Gaesomun (연개소문), the celebrated Goguryeo military commander and statesman, depicted in detailed relief wearing a traditional horned ceremonial helmet adorned with a feather plume. The subject is rendered with a full beard and moustache, clad in period armour with an ornate collar. The legend '고구려의 애국영웅' (Patriotic hero of Goguryeo) arcs along the upper periphery in Hangul, with '연개소문' (Yeon Gaesomun) inscribed to the right and '7세기중엽' (Mid-7th century) to the left of the portrait. The Juche year and Gregorian date '주체 92 (2003)' appear in the lower exergue. |
