Obverse description Central device features the state emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea — a stylized depiction of the Paektu Mountain hydroelectric power station beneath a five-pointed star, framed by sheaves of rice tied with a red ribbon. The emblem is flanked at the base by decorative sprigs of foliage. The circular legend in Korean script surrounds the emblem along the upper periphery, reading the full official name of the state. The denomination '1 WON' is inscribed in Latin script at the bottom of the field.
