Obverse description The State Emblem of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea occupies the central field, depicting the Paektu Mountain landscape surmounted by a five-pointed star radiating beams of light, flanked by sheaves of rice bound with a ribbon at the base and framing an industrial scene. The emblem is set against a polished dark field. The circular legend in Hangul script reads '조선민주주의인민공화국' (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) along the upper periphery. Two decorative sprigs of laurel flank the lower field, beneath which the denomination '1 WON' appears in Latin script.
